Anthony is the Director of Worship and Communications at Arden Presbyterian Church in Arden, NC. He came to Arden from Trinity Presbyterian Church in Asheville where he served as Director of Music and Worship. Since 2002, he has taught as an adjunct faculty member at Montreat College, teaching courses in Music Theory, History, and Worship Arts.
In addition, Anthony composes various types of music, including worship songs, hymns, choral anthems, and instrumental arrangements. The Song of Endless Years, a CD of Anthony’s congregational songs for worship will be available later in 2014. The Fullness of Time, a 70 minute oratorio for soloists, choir, and chamber orchestra, was premiered in 2002. His Dona Nobis Pacem was commissioned and premiered by the Asheville Symphony and Asheville Symphony Chorus at the Symphony’s Classical Christmas Concert in 2013.
He received his formal training as a composer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (BM) and the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, Bloomington (MM, DM). His principal composition mentors include David Dzubay, Don Freund, and Roger Hannay.
While at Chapel Hill, his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra was the first student-composed work to be chosen in the department competition. It was premiered with the UNC Symphony Orchestra with the composer as soloist. At Indiana University Anthony taught Composition, Orchestration, and Counterpoint classes as a lecturer and associate instructor.
Anthony, his wife Dawn, and their two children live in Asheville.
